By visiting actual locales in feudal Japan and battling your way through perilous dungeons chock-full of monsters and traps, you, the player, will aid these spirits. If you are not familiar with NIS games, Cladun Returns is similar to them in that it is first and foremost an RPG, followed by a grindathon and a minmaxer’s paradise. You control a character with a limited selection of abilities in a gridless battlefield full of enemies and traps in this action role-playing game that bears some resemblance to the Legend of Zelda series. The majority of the game’s mind-numbing complexity stems from the ridiculous amount of customization options and the Magic Circle system, which enhances the stats and abilities of your main character by using your other characters as equipment pieces. Although Cladun Returns has many more features than its predecessors, including more randomly generated dungeons, more weapon kinds, and new opponents, it still has the same core structure. Furthermore, compared to Cladun x2, its predecessor, it is a lot more capable port.
